Children easily get bored with everyday classroom lessons. Some may become dull during classes hours. The street and vulnerable child who goes through a lot of hustles and psychological traumas consider classroom lessons as a torture. Street and vulnerable children may lose concentration while in class because of their harsh living conditions. At times, teachers refer to them as stupid. The truth is that a child who has to go and sell on the street after school cannot be compared with a child who is privilege to have access to all his or her basic needs. Children are naturally inspired to play.
At SCEF we believe play based learning helps children to improve upon their academic work. Street and vulnerable children are able to concentrate and study using play as a context of learning. Through play, they explore, discover, experiment and solve problems. Teachers are able to teach children how to spell their names. Through play children also learn basic calculation skills.

My name is Albert, I enjoy playing here. I am able to learn some words while playing.

Letter tags are used to master the sounds of letters, miming words to increase vocabulary and relay race to practice blending letters. Basic rules in playing make children disciplined. They learn where and what to do at a particular time. While children are playing they exercise their body. At SCEF our playground is always open for children. It is a place to learn in an active and loud way.

It is satisfying to see kids happy. While playing children learn how to relate to other people. They learn how to be calm, and how to solve problems. Playing with their peers make them stronger.'' Fabian SCEF volunteer
